Commission a Painting
A portrait or a painting made for you — in the same hand and the same oil technique as the works in the gallery.
Sizes and prices
A commission costs the same as a finished painting of the same size in the gallery — shipping included, as everywhere on this site.

Prices are a guide, based on finished works in the gallery. The final price depends on the size and the composition — I name it before we start, shipping included, and it doesn’t change.
Commissions start at 50×50 cm; smaller sizes by arrangement. Paintings up to 1 m on the longest side travel on their stretcher; larger works are shipped rolled, by arrangement.
How it works
Tell me your idea
Who or what you’d like painted, the size, where it will hang. Send as many photos as you like — for a portrait, several from different angles help me see the person.
We agree the details and the price
Composition, size, final price, dates.
A 50% deposit
By PayPal or bank transfer — it secures your place and the work begins. The other 50% is paid when the painting is finished, before it ships.
The sketch
First the composition, then a full sketch. If something needs changing, we change it now — only then does the painting move to canvas.
I paint
I don’t usually send progress photos: a painting is best judged as a whole. When it’s finished, I send you a photo, and if something needs adjusting, I adjust it.
Drying and shipping
Oil needs time before it can travel safely. The painting is packed by hand and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and a tracking number.
How long it takes
- Painting: 1–2 weeks after the sketch is approved
- Drying: 1–2 weeks
- Delivery: usually 2–3 weeks, with tracking
4–7 weeks from the approved sketch to your door. I take on 2–4 commissions a month, so it’s worth asking early — especially before the holidays.
Questions
What canvas do you use? Cotton or linen, usually a ready-made canvas. A canvas I prime myself is possible by arrangement, when I have one ready.
Can you paint my pet? I haven’t painted animals on commission yet, but I’m open to it — write to me and we’ll talk it through.
Can I see how it will look on my wall? Yes — send me a photo of the wall and I’ll show the painting in it, to scale, before you order.
Can I return a commissioned painting? A commission is painted for you alone, so it can’t be returned for a change of mind. If it arrives damaged, the rules on the Shipping & Returns page apply.
Customs and taxes? Shipping is included; import VAT and customs fees in your country are not. More on the Shipping & Returns page.
A gift for someone else? A gift certificate lets them choose — from $100.
